Dunja Antunovic, PhD, assistant professor of sport sociology at the School of Kinesiology, published a journal article titled, “Digital media routine and audience engagement during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Hungary” in Sport in Society.

The study analyzed how the Hungarian public service media’s sports channel used their Facebook page during the Games and found that live television coverage continues to be central in digital media content. The sequence of posts followed the competition schedule of Hungarian athletes, while medal winners generated the highest engagement numbers. The article provides further evidence that broadcasters promote “home” athletes, rather than providing internationalized coverage of global mega events.

The article is a collaboration with Tamas Doczi, associate professor at the Hungarian University
of Sport Science. Doczi and Antunovic previously collaborated on a study about Hungarian
Olympians’ social media uses.
